Craydon R. Enslow

Served as mayor 1895-1896

When the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway established its employee hospital in Huntington, Craydon R. Enslow was appointed chief surgeon and retained that office until his health deteriorated some years later. He then was made a consulting surgeon. He kept up his practice along with the hospital work, and treated many cases gratis.

Dr. Enslow was born at Wheelersburg, Ohio, in 1853, the son of Revillo and Sophie Andrew Enslow. The Enslows moved to Huntington not long after the city was founded in 1871 and became one of the oldest and best-known of Huntington.

After completing his preparatory work at Marshall College (now University) Enslow studied at Cincinnati Medial College, where he earned his medical degree. He began his medical career at Wayne and while there married Mary Bloss of Ceredo. He and his wife then came to Huntington.

Dr. Enslow was elected mayor in 1880 and served one term, continuing his medical career while attending his duties as mayor.

He died in 1923.
