A jeweler by trade, George Cullen took pride in having served under Confederate Gen. Stonewall Jackson during the Civil War. He commanded the Montpelier Guards, the advance unit in Jackson’s command.
An advertisement published in the May 25, 1852, issue of the Huntington Argus newspaper described Cullen’s shop as being located “3 doors from the corner of 3rd Avenue and 9th Street and boasted that it had on hand “a general assortment of Clocks, Watches, Silverware and Jewelry at bottom prices.”
