James B. Taylor

Served as mayor 1928-1931

Dr. James Boyce Taylor, another physician, was born in Culpeper, Virginia, in 1868. He earned his medical degree from the University of Maryland after studying at Washington and Lee University and Staunton Military Academy. Before coming to Huntington he practiced in Hamlin for several years, often traveling by horseback to treat patients in remote sections of Lincoln County.

Dr. Taylor was elected to the House of Delegates in 1894 and served in the State Senate in 1926. During World War I, he joined the staff of the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway Hospital in Huntington and remained there until 1928, when he was elected mayor.

He retired about 1940 and died in 1958.
