Sitting on the banks of the Ohio River where West Virginia, Ohio, and Kentucky meet, Huntington is the county seat of Cabell County and also stretches into Wayne County. It is one of the largest inland ports in the United States and is a relatively short drive from many of the major metropolitan areas of the United States.
Huntington is home to Marshall University. Marshall is one of the premier educational destinations in the United States with students focusing on a diverse range of studies from business, medicine, engineering, technology, and more. The university also boasts a nationally-respected reputation in athletics with the Thundering Herd.
Incorporated in 1871, Huntington is named after railroad magnate Collis P. Huntington. Many historical events have occurred here since that time. Business and industry have both thrived and changed, natural disasters have occurred and the city has experienced booms and busts. Throughout all, the citizens of Huntington have persevered and continued to prosper.
